Mark Leland

18 November, 2008 | Hope Couser
I introduced myself to Mark Leland when he performed at the American Autism Society meeting in Phoenix, AZ. We had just moved to Maryland from Tennessee to get treatment for our son with autism. The Missing Pieces DVD helped us explain to our families why we had to move. It was so much more than words could have ever expressed in getting them to understand why we left our small town home. The Howard County, Maryland Autism Society has a silent auction every year at the annual gala. I was hoping tha I could get an autographed CD to put in our silent auction. My address is Hope Couser, 11017 Wood Elves Way, Columbia, MD 21044. My phone number is 410-884-2825. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

I saw your video of Missing Pieces in church today. It was very moving. I'm working in the school system and see the challenges of all children who aren't "Normal". These children are the ones with love and joy the rest of us wish we had daily.

just saw the music video missing pieces, what a special man you are, our grandson Caleb just turned 4 and at age 2 was diagnosed with autis spectrum disorder. My daughter and grandsin live with us as he is to much for one person to handle, plus having to endure the stares and comments from people who think you are a bad parent one person even said some people just shouldnt be able to have children, our grandson is probably more intelligent then they are. Thank- you so very much for your caring and compassion for so many families and children who have this illness.

I'm a mother of four, my four year old has been diagnosed with Autism. I'm trying to find the song, Missing Pieces, and with permission add it to my son's fundraising website, http://www.4paws4jc.com, we are trying to secure a service animal to help my son cope with his day to day challenges; we need to raise $13000.
God Bless You, this song gets the point across perfectly.

Missing Pieces just spoke to me. My son is Autistic and wow! Is there a track or sheet music available for this song? I would love to be able to do this at my church with my son and information on Autism.

Hello,
I am a wish ambassador for a site called Wish Upon A Hero. A wonderful little boy named Matthew Cody has Autism and his Mom's biggest wish is for him to meet you and sing with you. You can see her wish here...
http://www.wishuponahero.com/wishes/?id=49879
Before you say no....please let me tell you something about this family. Tammy Lyn (Matthew Cody's Mom) has helped so many families that have been hit with Autism. She has helped me. My son was diagnosed with Autism at 3 and Tammy Lynn has walked me through his diet, given me a shoulder to cry on, even helped my son to get the necessary supplements and therapy items he needed. She is a hero to me and so many others!
I hope you will seriously consider this wish and be her hero.....Please contact me either way.

Thank you for your time!

I love Mark Leland and all his efforts to support Autism Awareness. My husband and I have three son's. Our middle son was diagnosed w/Autism at age 2 1/2 years old.
He is a loving gift to us. He is an inspiration and teaches us that life is a gift, as he struggles in his mind everyday for acceptance from others. And we are glady fighting the struggle w/ him for more awareness in and around our community and surrounding city. Thank-you for sharing this beautiful song "Missing Pieces". Sincerely, Teresa Pilich

Hi all!

I am the mom of three. A 6 year old with autism and a 3 1/2 year old with cerebral palsy. Luckily my 9 year old is fine. All my children are blessings and I am so lucky to have them. They have made me see the true strenght in myself. I have always turned to country music to help me get through. To either find strenght to fight or to find the permission to take time to cry. I have made a cd for myself of country songs. Even though the original artist and song writers never ment some of there songs to help with autism or cp they do. I am currently trying to find a way to seek the artist approval and get a cd created (legally) and use it to raise funds for autism and possible cp. If anyone ever reads this and can help please email me 3moores4moosic@comcat.net or 5704511776

When is Mark Leland performing in the New Jersey/New York area. I would love to take my wife, and son Maxwell, who loves dancing and music, to your concert. Would be a great double birthday gift my my loving wife and child. Any concerts around NOV./DEC.?
Jonathan Brown, husband to Geri, father of Maxwell

22 August, 2008 | Geri Brown
Mark Leland has changed my life. I frequently give to autism causes, as my son Maxwell has autism. He is 12, turning 13 in November. This is a big birthday in the jewish religion. At 13 a boy becomes a "man", and a bar mitzvah is a celebratory ritual of that coming of age. Our folks want him to be bar mitzvahed, as did all the other grandchildren, and my husband I refused to celebrate our son becoming a man, since as Mark clearly understands, these children with autism may never become men and women in the true sense of the word. I also have a life changing birthday, a week after my son Maxwell turns 13, I turn the big 5 0. I was diagnosed with depression, shortly after my son was born, and have never seemed to snap out of it, that is until I heard Mark Leland's Missing Pieces. At first I could barely get through the entire song without compl;etely breaking down, and now, 2 months later, I have found myself, as well as the beauty in my son Maxwell. I am proud to s ay that as soon as my depression lifted, with the help of a dear friend, my therapist, Susan (and antidepressant medication), my son has started to talk and come out of his shell, and started to speak. My husband retired last year to work dilligently with Max, to make a difference before it is too late. I work as an ICU nurse taking care of other people, and could never care for Max. Now, he has discovered his mommy, and I have discovered my son, and all his gifts and beauty and strenths. I wish I could have been there for him sooner, but I just couldn't. I had been so busy mourning the loss of the healthy son I did not have, instead of embracing Max, and accepting him for who he is, my hero, and my inspiration. I want to be just like him when I grow up. Now, when things seem hopeless, I play Missing Pieces, and truly listen to all the words, and think of my son, and the wonderful man behind the song, Mark Leland. God bless him. I know that you have helped me and all the other brave, scared parents who have autistic children. And he was right on the money when he said all of them, both the parents and the children are inspirations and heroes to all.
Ger Brown, RN and the proud mother of Maxwell Steven Brown

Hi Mark,
My name is Laura and I am 19 years old. I have asperger syndrome. I live in England. I found your song missing pieces and I thought it was so good it made me cry. I really struggle sometimes with my ASD because I am realising I am different to other people as I am growing into a grown up. But I have decided to work at a school helping a little boy with autism and use some of the skills I have been taught to try and help him. If I ever get to go to america it would be really cool to meet you and your family. If you have time please write back to me. Thank you. Laura

My 5 year old son Jacob has autism and he is the sweetest most beautiful boy ever, i'm sure every parent feel the same but I am in total awe of all the challenges he faces every day and how strong and couragous he is. He has come so far since he was diagnosed, further than i ever thought he would. He still is unable to speak . He has been using simple sign language to express his needs . He is my inspiration and i would not have it any other way. He has taught me so many lessons about self confidence and not caring so much about what others think or trying to "fit in" whith the rest of the world. He can't so it but I can see in his face that he is happy just the way he is and has the "if you don't like me then tough" attitude that most adults don't have. he is truly awesome! mommy loves you jacob!

I don't have any personal experience with autism, however, after deciding to research it for an english assignment, i started looking at awareness campaigns. It was then that i came across your music, You are simply an inspiration to us all. I am so inspired now to go out, and make a change. This world is a scary place, and we need to support each other, We are all in this together in the game of life. So thankyou. Thankyou so much.

Im so grateful that more artists are helping the cause of autism. I have a 20 year son with autism, and we have had to fight many battles along the way. We have set many precedents for this newer generation in our community. The fight against ignorance is the greatest. I so appreciate you putting into words the battle. I have been writing about it for years myself. Many letters, poems, songs, and speechs to try to get my son what he needs. Thanks for touching my heart Liz

I love what you are doing for the autism community , you are a pillar of strength for your child and all autistic children .
My stepson Aaron is 5 and autistic .
I am marrying his dad next month , so that I can try to adopt him .
My problem is that there are health professionals that are saying it wont be good for him , because his mom is still alive , she has her own health issues , I moved in with Harry , one day after he got custody from Aaron's mother , because the child had cigarette burns on him , her roomate was locking him in a room .
The Mom has her own mental health issues .
so for the last two years I've been the one , going to the meetings , going to the appointments , working with his wrap around services , putting him on his gfcf diet , dealing with the sleepless nights , and the behaviors , she has seen him possibly a dozen times in the last year and a half .
I haven't even worked in the last year and a half because we couldn't even find a babysitter , we actually just started recieving respite care .
He only spoke 2 or 3 words when I moved in , now he speaks in 5 and 6 words sentences , we are getting the behaviors under control , and he's been on the gfcf diet for nearly a year now .
I just need somebody to tell me I'm doing the right thing here in adopting Aaron , because right now my fiance is the only one backing me up , I feel bad that his mother has problems , but I've gotten to the point where her problems don't matter that much to me , Aaron's do
Thank you for your sympathetic ear Stacy L Letner

21 June, 2008 | Melanie Jordan
I just want to tell you what your song means to me.
November 18, 2006 was the day the lil' girl in me died.
She was charming and beautiful.
Who killed her?
The word autism.
All the dreams I had for my baby Noah died.
Nervous breakdowns don't help when your baby needs you. He was 3.
I was 33.

Yesterday we found out he DOES NOT have autism. He is going to Kindergarten.
He DOES NOT have autism.
I haven't quite digested it so I had to repeat it. *oh big tears streaming now*
I know more now about autism than I ever have before.
And I know the Lord Jesus Christ sent me down that road so that I can help mothers who have been told this, they are crushed with this news. Devestated. And sometimes when they are most desperate...there is no one. I wanna be that someone. God willing I will.
Words can kill a person. Sure they are still standing and functioning, but a chunk is gone.
It says in the Bible the Lord gives back 10 times what the locust have taken away and I believe it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Now your song.
I have held onto that song for dear life. Quite literally.
And I know that it was the Lord who sat down with you and wrote it so we could ALL stay afloat.
Mr Mark, you save lives through Christ.
I won't repeat it...I have chills and i'd do anything to hug you except that i'd hurt you and you have lot of things to do.
Bless you, bless you and bless you. You are a walking angel.
That is what I believe. Noah Samuel thanks you as he needed "Mommy" to be a "force to be reckoned with" while she pushed like a mother lion to get her cub all the available speech help he needed. (talking cubs? I could make that happen..giggle)My husband thanks you as he had his wife when he couldn't have done it on his own. And finally but not leastly, Luke Matthew thanks you because you through Christ helped "Mummy" be brave enough to try one more time no matter how scared she was that "it" would happen again. And Luke is a gift from God I tell him every chance I get.
You are more than artistic Mark...oh, are you ever.
Mrs J.

Mark needs to be on Oprah! When will we see his CD's in the stores? I have a lot of people who want to buy them. His music is fantastic!. His writing is with such passion. He is a professional singer no doubt. His music will move anyone who hears it! Please get him more exposure. I want to see him on CMT!

15 June, 2008 | Hollie Peterson
I agree with the last comment from Cathy. Mark Leland should be in everyone's cd player. I bought his cd a few weeks ago and it stays in my car cd player. It is simply amazing. I also just heard a new song on his myspace called "I ain't letting go", and it brought tears to my eyes. This is one country artist that writes with a lot of passion and care. It shows in every song on his cd. I've told all my friends about him.

Thanks Mark,
You are loved in Washington DC

13 June, 2008 | Cathy Huffines
I listened to Mark's CD and was blown away. HE IS GOOD!!!
My question is why haven't I heard of him. He definetly needs exposure on television. With all of his talent he could be one of country music's STARS!! When I listened to his music, every song was great on the Missing Pieces CD. He made me actually cry, his music touched my heart in a way that I just can't explain it. His voice is so smoothing and just doesn something to you. There is a peace with every song. Please, please get him out there so everyone can know who he is and know how much talent he has!

11 June, 2008 | Amanda Reynolds
Your are a beautiful person inside and out Mark Leland. Your passion shows in not only your music but all that you do and have done for the autism community. Please know that you are appreciated and loved.

I just discovered your amazing song, "Missing Pieces." I cried. My son has autism. Like Nathaniel and so many other children because of the GFCF diet.....interventions.....as being dye free and preservative free.....my son has SOARED! The song brought tears to my eyes. I had to put the words into signs. I teach American Sign Language and I will be performing this song...in signs....for my ASL class. I also want to share that I have written a book, which will be out in 2009, about the diet and other interventions for ASD kids....it is a very detailed step by step guide. Contact me via my web site at www.puttingyourkidsfirst.com to email me and ask for my FREE 4 page starter guide to the diet.....I will email it to you. Bless all the parents who deal with autism..and bless us all...who FIGHT and fight SO HARD to do the most for our babies. It takes so much...but we can win this war!..

Wow....every day I find more info. Your song touched me deeply. I do not have children with autism. I believe autism affects us all, many just don't realize it yet. We are sponsoring the 1st ND Autism Connection Walk/Resource Fair to raise money for awareness, resources and eductaion. (Bismarck North Dakota) We don't have many services here, not much awareness either. Would it be possible to get permission to play your video at the resource fair? Thank you for your great song that will reach so many.

I fell in love with your music, particularly Missing Pieces. Made me cry because I have autism and have been trying to get things out from day one. They just never come out the right way, so people see me as dum and retartded, yet when I got tested for learning disabilities, I had only a few minor one, and with an IQ of just that below Einstien's. Thankyou.

Hello Mark,
Just letting you know I enjoyed browsing your site and most importantly your "Missing Pieces" song. I too am effected with this mysterious world of Autism. My son Cameron is 10 years old and is one of the many growing numbers of children living in the world of Autism. It truly is a missing piece of a very difficult puzzle. Raising awareness and prayer is the most we can do now! Take Care!

I was told about a song you wrote about children with autism, so i went to your site. I had NO idea i would be so touched, and that the song you wrote would be so incredible! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reaching out to the world and making more people aware of autism. I have a 13 yr old son, my firstborn, he is an incredibly compassionate, loving boy, but very few people know that about him, you see he keeps it all inside, and unless someone takes thetime to accept him for who he is, they will never know the wonderful boy i do. I am sending along a poem i received that really sums it up- sorry if i am writng to much- but i was really touched to know someone would do this for all the wonderful children on the autism spectrum. The Misunderstood Child

I am the child
that looks healthy and fine.
I was born
with ten fingers and toes.
But something
is different, somewhere in my mind.
And what it
is, nobody knows.
I am the child
who struggles in school.
Though they
say I'm perfectly smart.
They tell me
I'm lazy-can learn if I try-
But I don't
seem to know where to start.
I am the child
that won't wear the clothes
Which hurt me
or bother my feet.
I dread sudden
noises, can't handle most smells,
And
tastes-there are few foods I'll eat.
I am the child
that can't catch the ball
And runs with
the awkward gait.
I am the one
chosen last on the team
And cringe as
I stand there and wait.
I am the child
with whom no one will play-
The one that
gets bullied and teased.
I try to fit
in and I want to be liked,
But nothing I
do seems to please.
I am the child
that tantrums and freaks
Over things
that seem petty and trite.
You'll never
know how I panic inside,
When I'm lost
in my anger and fright.
I am the child
that fidgets and squirms
Though I'm
told to sit still and be good.
Do you think
that I choose to be out of control?
Do you think
that I would if I could?
I am the child
with the broken heart
Though I act
like I really don't care.
Perhaps there
is a reason God made me this way-
Some message
he sent me to share.
For I am the
child that needs to be loved
and accepted
and valued too.
I am the child
that is misunderstood,
I am
different-but look just like you.

Bless you Mr Leland, thank you for caring.
Tamie

06 April, 2008 | Lin Wessels
To one of our heroes, Mark Leland,

Again, many, many thanks for your ongoing support and contributions to the autism community!

We are no stranger to your website, efforts and phenomenal CD, "Missing Pieces." I can't really say how many copies we've proudly purchased. You see, I feel so strongly about its message, I am continually compelled to share it with others. I have given copies to our son’s teachers, therapists, specialists, as well as, our legislators and Congressmen. Most recently, I was both proud and honored to have the opportunity to give a copy to Senator John McCain. You see, Senator McCain met our son, Sam. Sam, with help from his MAMA, was able to ask Senator McCain this, “If you are president, will you help me and all of the others, like me? I have autism.” http://tinyurl.com/3d8nlo Senator McCain, by his own admission, was profoundly impacted and taken with our little Sam. With many additional efforts, Senator McCain, with bipartisan support from Senator Lieberman, requested Senate hearings on behalf all those afflicted with autism and their families. http://www.a-champ.org/McCain_Lieberman_letter.html or http://tinyurl.com/5mmpg6

The reason I chose to share this with you, dear sir, is our desire for you to know, that you too have had a hand in this. You are a grand part of the progress towards healing and hope for our children. And we thank you!!

We’d like to offer a formal invitation to have you stand and march with us in the upcoming, “Green Our Vaccines” rally. The rally will be held on June 4 in Washington DC. It is being sponsored by Jenny McCarthy, Jim Carrey and TACA (Talk About Curing Autism). You can find the details here: http://tinyurl.com/5lsdq3

Please consider our plea. It would be an honor and privilege for so many. It truly would mean so much to us…

Our sincerest thanks for all you do on our behalf!!

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Warmest Regards,
Lin Wessels
Sam’s MAMA

Hello, I first want to say that the song " missing pieces " is the best song I have ever heard in my life. You sing like a angel.
I'm 25 years old and a mother of twins that have autism. They were diagnose at UVA on March 1, 2007. They were on level with everything and was doing great, until about 15mo old. We knew something was wrong and we put them in a program called Brith to Three here in West Va. We have a lot of kids in our area on the spectrum. I'm in the southern part of West Va.
My husband is a coal miner and the company provides insurence for the family but it dosen't cover autism so there for we have to pay out of pocket. We can't get mediacade because he makes to much money.
I do want to say thank you for that song. It is awsome and you are a blessing from up above and I love everyone that helps to raise and do for Autism families. Thank you so much.
Kristy

Praise the Lord, Bro. Who is the chick who's eye are on your website? Amazing eyes! It was great to hear from you. I thought you had fallen off the planet seeings how the earth is flat and all. We here in Midway are blessed. Faithe and Whtiney are doing excellant. It's still alot of fun to show people your website so I can say I know a celeb. Ha Ha Thats not the real reason, The more people are informed as to how great a problem Autism is, the greater chance of finding a cure. If you remember, we had a family in our church whos son was Autistic and his name was Riley. He rarely if ever spoke and no one but his family could communicate with him. I had a dream one night that he walked up to me and said praise the Lord Bro Lett and not long after I heard him speak for the first time and you guessed it "praise the Lord Bro Lett. Keep up the great work and keep the faith, our pathes will be crossing again sooner than you think. God Bless. Bro Jon Lett.

I just wanted to tell you that when I saw your vidio of missing pieces I sat and cried...I am very much aware of the strugles that parents go through as I have a 32 year old son with autism that still lives at home with me and is the greatest person and a joy to be proud of..He goes to a sheltered workshop everyday Monday thru Friday and earns a paycheck doing piece work,,His check is only $4. but he is so proud of earning his own money....I know you talk about children with autism but most people forget that they do turn into adults with needs also...My son of 32 was given at birth 2 years to live as he has feeding problems and cannot tolorate any textue food so has lived on a totally liquid diet his whole life..I once had the page that had your vidio of missing pieces but somehow it got deleted from my computer...Is there any way you can send me that page as I loved the vidio so much....I did buy the CD and listen to it often but it means so much more when you watch the vidio. Thank you from a parent of an a son with autism for your work you do for them.
Sincerely

I absolutly love you singing missing pieces. Is that a song you wrote? The passion you sang it with makes me know you know someone very well that has Autism. Let me cut to the chase, I have written a song to my grandson who is 15 and has sever autism. My song is about what a grandparent might feel about living with an autistic grandchild. I made it into a video and it is on my page, the problem is my lousy voice... I dream that you might consider singing it. I'm not looking for no money and would allow its use to raise money to find the cure, I know I would love to by the CD with missing pieces and my song, and songs from otheres that are about autism.
Respectfully
John DePietro

Hello Mark,

Need a big favor!

What are the chances of me getting an "Autographed Photo" of you? As you know I work with Autistic Children/Young Adults/Administration here in Birmingham, Alabama.

I ordered your "Missing Pieces CD" last year and the children absolutely loved it and the scenery was just beautiful! By having your photo for visual it will allow the children to recognize you through "association if that makes sense"...especially for the non-verbal one's. I explained to them who you were and how your were promoting "Autism Awareness" through your music.

I will be more then happy to pay for this; please let me know when you get a chance.

Thanks again for all you do and I pray God will continue to bless you through your music. You are one special and talented man!!!!

Hugs & Blessings,
Kathryn

I just wanted to say thanks for your efforts on behalf of those with Autism. From a father's standpoint it is very difficult to deal with. I just want to fix it, and maybe with the involvment of folks like yourself, maybe one day we can.

Hi Mark

The Isaac Foundation (check us at TheIsaacFoundation.org) is a small, non-profit organization. Our goal is to provide grants for children on the autistic spectrum to receive the therapy they need, We are trying to fill the gap between a cure and the children who are affected now.

On Friday night, Feb 8, we will be having the first annual fundraising auction (The Taste of Hope), and you will be a part of it. I used your song (Missing Pieces) on top of a slide show that I hope shows some of the benefits of therapy.

Thank you for this beautiful song!

Julie

I heard your song for the first time a while back. I have shared it with alot of people. The song reminds me of my life right now. My son has autisum. He will be three this month. It is very hard. My whole life has changed. It has put stress on my family, and marriage . I have been looking for a sound track of your song missing peices. I would like to sing the song at church to spread the word about autisum and let people know about what our kids and familys go through. Maybe I can reach people and raise some awareness. Please let me know if there is a sound track availble with just the music. You are awesome and I feel like we are alike in alot of ways. I enjoy singing, but just never had the time or strength to carry it out. Thanks for your talent. I am a true fan.
Tim

Hi Mr. Leland, My name is Kellee and I am the Director for the Carson Kolzig Foundation--a non-profit committed to raising money for autism in Eastern Wa. We were founded by NHL Goalie Olie Kolzig (Wa Capitals) who have a 7 year old on the autism spectrum. Last year we awarded over $80K in grants to organizations serving these families (education, encouragment, research and other services). We were hopeful to do a concert or other event in our community that promotes awareness to a GREATER audience than our current fundraiser serves. We currenly conduct a golf tournament in July. (this year 19-21st).

Could you (or your staff) potentially get in touch with us to discuss the potential of making an appearance to our community either this year, or in future years?

Thank you so much. Best regards to you and thank you for your dilligence to raise awareness and lend your amazing talent to this worthy cause.

Blessings to you,
Kellee Balcom

I came across your name when looking for security systems for my 4 year old autistic son. I just had to listen to your song. It made me cry. It's a wonderful song. Thank you. Then I had to listen to your song about Noah. It also made me cry. You see, we almost lost Nicholas at 9 days old. He had open heart at 13 days old and kidney surgery at 20 months old. June of 2006 we found out he was autistic, one of his patches on his heart and one of his valves is leaking, and he may be developing kidney stones. It was a very bad month. But this month he said his very first word-pink. Every day is a challenge for him and us. But I'm so thankful to God that he is here.

Glad to have you behind us and supporting us in Autism. My son is 13 and has been diagnosed (when he was around 3) with Mild Autism due to he shows symptoms in every field of the spectrum. He is such a trooper, but there are days that he gets upset and frustrated because the kids at school pick on him because they don't understand. My mom recently bought him a shirt that says "Anyone can be normal, it takes someone special to be Autistic" and it seemed to cheer him up. What friends he does have loved his shirt and support him at school. He loves your song "Missing Pieces". The first time he heard it, he looked at me and said that "Mom, that was written for me and others like me." I said "Yes baby, it was" He tells everyone about your song and listens to it everyday. Thank you sooooo much Mark. Everything you do means so much to me and my son as well as many others.

Keep up the good work. Mark! Never stop believing in our kids. My son Noah who has aspergers syndrome is now 11 years old. A couple of months ago one of his doctors said that he "no longer openly presents symptoms". I am so proud of my son. It has been alot of work but it has been well worth it. The best disease prevention for Autism is early detection and treatment. Pass it on!

I know SO many people will be moved and grateful for your heartfelt song.. Thank you again for being a shining light to Autism Awareness. Happy Holidays, Eileen
